Hi All
I'm a new convert, got a 1996 japanese import 300tdi auto about 2 weeks ago. Its done just over 50k and seems quite reasonable. So far I'm getting about 25 mpg.
Questions I could do with some advice on are:
1. Seems to be very slow pulling away unless I floor it, seems not to make much power until about 2500 rpm. Is this normal or have I bought a duff ?

2. What are the most sensible mods etc to look at initially and where's best to look for bits (need a dog guard as a priority !! ) around west kent ?

3. Are there any gentle green lane opportunities that anyone knows of around the West Kent area ?

Many thanks

Get a bigger inter cooler blank off the egr and remove the cat. Do a search theres loads of threads on this sort of stuff.

Cheers mate, will do.
Any idea how expensive and how idiot friendly this is as I've not done much diy stuff before

A fiver for the EGR plate will save you twice that every time you put half a tank of fuel in it.

25 mpg might get close to 30 mpg.

Go for it.

mine was also gutless under 2500rpm, local independant adjusted the deisel pump for £5.00 and the difference was outstanding.
blanked egr recently and improved even more , again cost about a fiver

Rake around the forum and find the items I wrote recently about adjusting TIMING in Landies.

Easy to do, and outstanding results .

I think a search for posts made by me will find them
Ignore the crap stuff ....

charlesy, is it safe to do the pump timing on 300 tdi engines, with the turbo and stuff on there?

found this incase your interested, ok i guess if you have a bosch pump

Turning up the pre 94 Ram diesel injector pump

That was an excellent article, and I have saved it for later.

However, all I suggest you do meantime is fine tune the TIMING of your pump, probably by advancing the timing a little bit till the engine runs the best it can with the pump's innards set the way they are now.

So, we are not adjusting the pump's SETTINGS.
We are going to adjust the TIMING only.

Read the various pieces in the forum recently, and examine YOUR car to see if you can manage to adjust the rotation of the pump a few times till you reckon it's good.
