Hi everybody
Just joined upto the site as I'm thinking of buying a range rover and thought I would see what I could find out before taking the plunge and parting with my money.
I have seen a 4.2 range rover sport very low mileage and full dealer history

Thoughts on the car in the link would be welcomed, it will only be used as a weekend car as I have a company one mon- fri, currently have a zafira which we use for putting the dog in the back and shopping, so I would prefer a little more luxury.
The same dealer has a black 2006 3ltr diesel vogue but higher miles and also higher tax bracket,

Which given the choice would you go for?
 
What's your option on the sport reliability wise? Although its only got 35 k on the clock and just had £1800 spent on a service,
I should imagine mpg is low 20's on the 4.2 sport?

I think reliability wise the RRS's are much the same as the D3's (not exactly high up there in terms of reliability, but the same can be said about the L322's TBH, all have their issues )

I wouldn't buy a sport personally, I prefer the D3's but couldn't afford one and went for a 2002 vogue instead (much better value for money!)
Having had one, I do love the vogue (still have a soft spot for the D3 mind!)

It's your decision at the end of the day, on paper IMHO the sport looks like the 'better bet' in terms of age/mileage etc.
"You pay your money you take your choice"!
Drive both and see which you prefer :)

That sport seems quite expensive to me, £20k for a 2006, I know it has low miles, but the diesels are the sought after ones....

I can't find another 2006 4.2 sport with low miles and fsh under 20k
I think I will follow your advice and test drive both

If I had to choose between what is a rock and a hard place, I'd go for the L322 Vogue, just make sure the gearbox is OK and get the oil and filter changed. At least it doesn't have the electric handbrake that might leave you stranded in the fast lane.:rolleyes:

Thanks for the replies, been out today and seen a few and eventually bought the one in the link
LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT 268 BHP 3.6TD V8 HSE AUTO 2008 | eBay

One owner car with fsh bought it from the specialist who has done the past 3 services and who knows the history of the car, its had the common problems such as suspension pump and bushes replaced, very happy with the deal and got a new set of side steps in with the deal.
Pick it up next week.
 
Looks really smart Simon. Never driven a TDV8 but a highly rated power plant.

Very happy with it, although we had a slight problem on the test drive, it only had 12 miles of fuel showing on the screen on the way back, it cut out going up a hill and went into limp mode, after 5 mins on a flat surface it fired back into life,
Got it hooked upto the diagnostic machine when we got back and it was due to lack of fuel as what was left in the tank must have gone to the back as we went up the hill,
There going to do a full check on it Tuesday but it has just been serviced and comes with a warranty,
Really pleased with the service and a nice bunch of guys to deal with.
 
Pity they can't be arsed to put fuel in for people to test drive - or is that their way of making sure you don't go very far so you don't find all the problems? And why do they only do a full check AFTER you've said you're going to buy it. They all do that sir, don't they. Good luck with it anyway.

Take it for another test drive before you hand the cash over just to ensure they have fixed it / make sure it was just due to lack of fuel.
Much easier and less hassle to get them to fix it before you buy, heard horror stories of trying to claim on warranties etc to no avail and you have a load of hassle to go with it.

Agreed though on above post, shame they couldn't put a few gallons of fuel in a £21k Rangie......
 
To be fair it was on 1 mile of fuel when we set off, we stopped and put in £10 as this is all the cash he had on him as he had come in Sunday to let me have a look at the car,
I will make sure all in order when I collect Friday,
I was there when he hooked it upto the diagnostic machine, he called in the mechanic to do this and check over the car.

NO credit/debit card? Sounds suspicious to me:rolleyes:
 
When I had my V8 changed under warranty, the dealer gave me a D2 whilst they did the work. I never even made it to the nearest service station. They are all muppets when it comes to fueling :mad:
 
for some reason dealers have an aversion to fuelling their stock, probably due to the 1.50 a litre or whatever it is we are paying, had similar experience collecting a new defender and the courtesy car also had no fuel.........

Nice car, good luck with it, Please do give it a good look over before you part with the cash, nice guys or not "caveat emptor"

Incredible that it is nearly £500 to tax........when are they going to stop increasing taxes!!
