What's your comfortable cruising speed on the flat? I used to feel that 50 and 55 were the kindest with my 2.5 N/A.

this is a 2.25d (not a typo) yeah about 40-50. hopefully not for long though.. 300tdi on the way :D

and at that point just dump a 200tdi in
But if you were going to do that it would be cheaper to get one which wasn't run as hard for less than buying a new engine with a ex-mod landy. So if i was you i would spend a bit more and get a better nick car.

300TDI is a better swap and easier... :)

dont you need to chop out the engine mounts and move them being as they are in a different place?

The 200tdi drops straight in on the existing 2.5na mounts afaik

not all mod land rovers are ragged to ****. Generally they chassis and bulkhead is in better nick than the equivalent age civilian defenders due to the armies penchant for cleaning.

I brought the best condition defender i could chassis and bulkhead wise on the basis that mechanicals are easier to sort. luckily i got a really good ex-mod wagon that was a motor transport run around on a base for 22 years lol

I now have my 1986 ex mod 110 defender N/A... I am kicking myself for not getting into landies before. Absolutely loving it, stuff to do but no complicated electrics to play with and simple engineering. Now also getting used to other landie driver waving to me all the time. Thanks for the advice guys
