My 1999 TD5 90 Defender had trouble with engine vibration and loss of power. The garage detected malfunction of injectors 3 &5. I replaced the harness to no avail, although there was no major oil leak, the ECU being clear of oil. They later detected that 4 was malfunctioning, but 3 was ok after flushing with cleaning fluid. They then found that the fuel pump was faulty and replaced it. Then fitted a recon injector 5 plus washers/seals on all injectors and apparently 4 was then ok. A bit confusing...!
Now there appears to be air in the fuel system, causing the engine to cut out so rather than lowering the tank to find the fault (which apparently could be a fault in the new pump), they are getting a piece of laser equipment to detect the air leak.
A friend had similar trouble and a new pump solved the problem without having new injectors.
Not sure how the injector testing works.
Is it possible that replacing the pump could have solved the trouble alone?
