HI Guys & Gals

My P 38 appears to be getting unusually hot although when I turn the heater on in the vehicle it blows hot air the temperature drops back down when I turn the heater off the temperature starts to creep up again

Please can anyone advise me on what is wrong

Thanks
Graham

Nah, merlin 24 litres in a rangie would be better, it'll poke through the grill a wee bit...

Is there any coolant loss? It may no longer be at the correct pressure.
Otherwise, check that the radiator is getting hot all over, and PM Datatek for his fan mod :)

Hi Guys
I've changed the thermostat and have taken it for about a 5 mile run engine still seemed to over heat quickly and when I got back I noticed the Radiator was only hot across the top where the pipes connect from the engine the rest of the radiator was stone cold this also meant that the cooling fans never turned on to cool the engine

I'm still getting warm air through thr heater system so I don't think I have an air lock

Is this just a case of the radiator needs flushing out ir is there some this else I should be looking at

Thanks

Remind me, is it a petrol or diesel? If diesel, there is a baffle in the centre of the rad header that can fail, then the water passes straight across the top instead of going down one side and up the other. Do the marble test.
Otherwise your replacement stat may be duff, a lot are, always wise to test before fitting.

Thanks for all your help very much appreciated now going to start faffing about with the radiator to see what I can find had to go and buy marbles thought I'd given up doing the around 40 years ago shop keeper thought i must be my second childhood

Thanks again
