Hi guys
So I managed to get out the headliner yesterday, was actually easy, I think I set my self up for fail but it was a breeze in the end, I am sure putting it all back might be the hardest bit.
Anyways I started to jet wash the car all around the top so see if I can trace the leaks, all the drain points all seem good and there was no leaks at all, they all look like this,

One thing I did notice was the glue type sealant around them, is this factory or do you think its been fixed before ?

After spending a long time with the jet wash there was only to points the water was coming in, that was around the part where the electric motors connect to the sunroof

this was the same on both sunroofs front and back, the rear one also leaked a little here around the nipple type think sicking through

The points in the car that the water was coming in when the headliner was on were, both sides front corners, around the light and sunroof switches at the front, around the sun visor and dripping all over the dash drivers side, coming out of the seat belt points both driver and passenger and the far left corner on the second rear sun roof. you can see in the below pic of the inside of the headliner the black marks

I am thinking that the points it was coming in to the car was runoffs from the three points I have found around the electric motor’s what do you think ? we would hear the water run along the top when we drove off and then would appear, it also depended on the direction of the wind and rain as to what part of the car would be wet.

My thoughts are that the point of entry is the front and back out side trim around the sunroofs and that the sunroofs will need to be taken out and re seated with new seals etc.

Any suggestions would be ace I no I am not the first to have this pain in the ass problem :D

I am going to live with car without the headliner for a while just to make sure we get it right before I get the headliner redone and all fitted back again.

One thing I have forgotten to mention is that there are roof rails on the car but I could not see any water around the nuts holding them in place.

Any thoughts guys ?

Thanks for the time to read

I'd be so interested to hear everyone's thoughts too. I have water coming in around the exact same areas, keeping saying I'll take the liner off but end up running a mile in fear of not being able to get in back on!

I had someone fix mine, water was coming in the same places you describe, he removed and resealed the sunroofs, the sealant used by Landrover is pretty poor, also redone the drain, when the roof is closed no water should enter the frame, the drains are there if by any chance water does get in the frame,he explained if water is getting in it is due to the sunroof needing resealing, also it is worth replacing the rubber seals as well.

I have had my headliner in and out a few times, it is not a big deal solo, and would be a doddle with an extra body.

Wind driven rain as when you're driving along can get in the seams ...

also when it slops around the headlining it can pool in the low spots ... all things to think of ...

Somehow rainwater doesn't always behave like water from a pressure washer. If possible leave the headlining out for a fews days and have a good look next heavy rain session, most days unfortunately.
I found putting it back in was easier than taking li out. Fold back seats down and fronts pushed forward so backs could go right down. Plenty of room to work then.

Hi, typically we have had no rain but I am not complaining as its a nice change to have some sun. I think the best solution is for me to have them taken out and resealed as suggested on here, I have spoken to a garage that have done this to many discos the said if i supply the rubbers then they will take them out and reseal with better sealant and the new rubber that I suppled for £150. I have had a look on line and there are a few to choose but wanted to ask what ones people have used and tested ? I don't want to go to all this trouble and have the problem return as I used crappy rubbers, what your suggestions guys.
Also do you think it would be worth replacing the seals on the roof rails as its all apart at the moment ?
Many thanks as always
