Is that the VIN on the vehicle or the VIN on the V5 ?

yes but date of reg 86 but vin 79-84 and states on logbook defender but we was told the defender didnt appear until 91 ?

sorry for the lack of info

Does the chassis number look original. something seems a miss but as long as everything matches up you've got less to worry about. its if things didn't match you'd be in trouble. does it state that the reg is non transferable on the front of the logbook. it may of had a chassis swap back in the days when the dvla allowed it to happen before all the point system. like when people were swapping mk 3 mini shells and claiming they were mk1 coopers.

yes all matches up and he has owned it for 12 years he called the dvla and did a online check all come back fine just the vin states 79-84 has alot of weird upgrades unsure if it meant to have them or not has wierd numbers on the windows (6124VB) tried to research this but didnt find anything also full air con 2 fuel tanks we did a car check and they could only trace the vehicle back to 91

my grandad is the sort of person who like to know everything about his cars lol all this came about because he wanted to see if it was possible to put a 200tdi to replace the j12 lol hes 79 by the way drives me mad

start worrying when he stops driving you mad.;):D:D

lol hes got me messaging people on ebay now asking about engines and inter coolers i dont mind but i dont have a clue.

lol my grancha was 83 they took his driving licence of him, yet everytime my father went on holiday i had to go over and phone or trace someone, he would wait for old man to go on hols then buy a car. Used to stress me out to max but it led to the first man hug i ever got of a well respected grancha. Just go with the flow or show him how to search net, he will annoy you **** you off and put you threw the ring but you will have fun and enjoy every minute of it..........

p.s. good luck you will need it ;)

Sounds like a fascinating vehicle. Maybe someone was planning on taking it on long journeys somewhere hot once upon a time. Just a wild guess, but does it have one of those double skinned safari roofs? Any indications whether the extras were fitted from new or does it look like they were added later?

If it's ex MOD then the date on the logfbook can often be out of synce with the build date. 110's were built in 1983 and were known as 110 landrovers. They changed to 110 Defender in 1990.

But someone could easily have added the decal or even changed the doors etc. Air con was an option. The etched numbers on the windows sounds like a fleet number Not heard of MOD doing this but peeps like Redcross/waterboards/leccyboards etc etc may well have done it. Twin fuel tanks is either mod (again) or an expedition Modification.

sorry will try and get some pics up later and yes all air con and tanks and a few other mods seem to have been there since manufacture yes it looks like someone intended to take it somewhere hot but did not make it

at the moment it has a j12 2.5 nd diesel engine is it possible to convert to 200tdi and are the gearboxes compatible or will that need replacing too ?
