My son has just had his golf gti turbo remapped, the guy who did it said he would remap my disco td5 for £60, he would read a file and copy a file on the ecu do something with it and then copy it back onto the ecu is there any danger to the engine.

If it were up to me, I would ask some serious questions first, then listen to the advice of someone who really knows remapping the Td5 ECU.
£60 sound a bit cheap to me.
Contact Mike from Dynachip, he's the guy who knows.

Yup another vote for Mike at Dynachip (mine goes like stink).Seems to be bad/poor experience from others like TD5 Alive one guy thought his TD5 was still very slow, so I would avoid the others.

As it is a 99 model it will need a chip not just a map putting on to the ecu so will be going to a reputable garage with a guarante.

I believe that you can send the whole ECU to Mike at Dynachip and he will install the appropriate chip.
It can't hurt to give him a ring and ask.

What youll be getting is a generic map which will just inject a ton more fuel and cause it to smoke. To be honest I would be weary of the map on the Golf as well.

Get it done properly by someone who knows TD5s, such as Dynachip.
