My Freelander has been in the local garage for 2 weeks for the front prop shafts to be replaced. After lots of nagging they started the job and then phoned me to ask if I'd ever had any lights shown on the dash - no I hadn't and alarm bells were now ringing in my head. A few days later and its ready. They said that they had checked the dash lights and there was nothing wrong even though the lights were on - Hill descent, traction control and ABS also F and 4 flashing alternately. They said drive it for a few days and it will probably go off! Does anyone know what this means and what can I do to fix it? I'm not willing to take it back to the garage as they've not filled me with confidence. Help!

I wonder if they disturbed the barrel connectors, down against the n/s inner wing below the battery tray

Can we move to freelander section
Crap forum software won't allow me to move it

No offense, but that's b******s!

A warning light is a warning light, it means there's something wrong. "Checked it and there's nothing wrong" won't help you when it causes it to fail an MOT. (That was one of the minor changes to the MOT recently iirc, all fault lights MUST go our or it's technically a fail.)

F4 is signalling that they've knackered up your gearbox.
Probably means that they've sliced wiring or banged the barrel connectors as suggested above.

Rarely do faults just "go away on their own," they broke it, they need to make it good! Start yelling at them...

B34R is right.... the freebie I'm working on had several wires cut (by idiots) - i used heatshrink and solder, and the light went off of this one.... I was panicing that it may be a new GBox or something else.... check wiring / plugs and check they haven;t done something stupid like..... struggled to connect the reverse switch and the 1st gear switch - then D1cked around with the wires until they did fit....
the green wires should go to the reverse light switch (on the GETRAG box, this is above the LH driveshaft inner joint)

Did they fit the right spec driveshafts for the age of your car?

What engine is in your car?

And what is the number before the 'A' at the 8th position from the end of your VIN?

Thank you I will go back to them tomorrow. I have the 2l diesel engine. Don't know what the number is in my VIN - will have a look tomorrow

Garage actually any good?, mine was stood for a year and all the warnings were lit up like Christmas tree, my mech cleared them all not had problem since.

I've now heard from the garage and they have finally admitted fault. they have cut off the sensors! they are putting it right with no charge. You guys were right about all of it. Will let you know how things are when I have the car back.

WOW, absolutely WOW.

I do all my own maintenance now if I can because I thought I'd given my cars to too many dickhead garages in the past, but that's unreal.

2 weeks to change drive shafts? Cutting wires to change drive shafts? Ignoring faults?
