Hi there everyone.

I am hoping you would be so kind as to give me some advice.

I'm in the market for a used ULEZ compliant Discovery 4 - I'm a network engineer and I've had the fear of God put into me by scum van thieves so i want to steer clear of a van or pickup. I've grown up with Landroves in my family and I am emotionally attached to the company. my dad's first Landy was a Disco 2, and my uncle is an avid collector of military defenders.

so, with this information in mind I've settled on the decision to go for a Landrover discovery 4 but i hear so many stories of people calling the engine terrible and just general disdain toward any Landrover after the 2

would it be considered a good choice? should i consider something else. how can i mitigate potentially getting a money pit and what should i look out for.

Clearly it's not all, but it's a well known issue.
Some say it's down to maintenance, others say luck of the draw as it comes out of the factory
It's all Discoverys with the v6 diesel as far as I'm aware which can be affected

V8 petrol and V8 Diesels OK.

Some think the issue is oil related and to run a slightly higher number.

If you're in the general London area, perhaps you need to check with your insurers, some scare stories there also.

If on facebook check out company called MDSR
All the 3.0 v6 could be a problem., d4 and d5.
One guy on another forum said it was like driving around on a hand grenade with the pin pulled, he sold his!
