Good evening I am looking for some advise on buying a Disco 3 my budget is 15k i would like a 2005 HSE 2.7 diesel with lowest milage possable. I have seen some with higher milage than I would like being 117k. I want high spec but am weary of high milage. Did intend on a Range Rover L322 but my budget was not quite there and I have read some bad reviews and they sound like money pits.

They're all landrovers! They go anywhere and are all money pits. I don't speak from personal experience, but from what I've read, earlier D3's are less reliable, not only because they're older, but because the later ones have the bugs removed. You could look at disco3.co.uk which has quite a bit on the problems of Discovery 3's and 4's.

I guess you can get a skewed idea of how unreliable they are, as you may from this site about many Land Rovers, but that's because many people only post when they've got a problem. Got to bear that in mind. :)

Thanks for that I think watever you intend to buy you could talk yourself out of it looking at too many forums. Its just reasuring sometimes to hear good experiences.

Road tax, expesive fuel and basicly anything that the goverment tax us highley on seems to be whats fun to do. So I made the desition to drive a larger car and live with it and enjoy it. If we didnt want to pay tax on luxurey items and fun we would save lots of cash and be misserable sods driving around in gutless eco cars and drinking tap water.

Hi.I have had many R/Rovers and Discoverys.I just sold my L322 and bought a LR3,which i like better its a 06 2.7 diesel with 122.000 miles on and it runs like a dream.cant fault it.full service history 3 owners 30MPG, faster than my L322.If they have been looked after, you should have no bother good luck.Derek

As someone who's had a D3 HSE for almost 6 years I can honestly say its been pretty reliable. CAN bus fault the day I bought it, EGR valves stuck over this Christmas and a new steering inner tie rod changed yesterday. 3 things in almost 6 years. It helps it's only done 40k miles but has been off road (Happy Valley in Wales several times amongst others).

£15k should get you a decent HSE, infact close to what I thinking of selling mine for (looking at going more utility with a 110). Hopefully you've dived in and got yourself one and enjoyed the snow in Feb :)
