'Lo all!
got my first landy 2 weeks ago for £750, knowing that it needed a bit of welding at the back. i've had the load space carpet up, and the floor is rotten on the left under the n/s fold-down seat (might be able to patch it). i know i can buy a new loadspace floor, but my problem is the rusted part in the photos - being a newbie, i don't know what the panel i need is called, or where to get it if i did!

the rust goes right under the plastic footplate, and the rust by the tailgate hinge has weakened the frame so that the tailgate scrapes on the bumper when you open it. if anyone could help me out by advising me if i can buy a new piece, or if i will have to fabricate it from scratch. thanks alot in advance!!

hmm....i'm looking for more constructive advice really!!! unless it looks like it's totally beyond repair?

Urgh!

the boot floor can be bought frum paddocks and the like , but i dunt think i've seen the rear bottom door sill bit, so thats a fabricate job.
But afore you go spendin any more on it check the rear x member, The back door scapy bit is usually because the x members shagged where the rubber mountings hold the rear body up ! or "not" in your case

Either way yer lookin at a LOT of weldin ;)

Hi its a straight forward fab job cut out the old and replace you can replace right back to where the seams meet to make a nice neat job i have done jobs like these on lots of vehicles and you cant see where they went in.

thanks for the info - i'm going to be stripping the back at the weekend - carpets out, bumper off, so i can see exactly what's what - i'll keep pictures posted, and if anyone knows of a place selling the sill, let me know.
or if anyone knows of a disco shell i could cut the sill out of - just as good!

mines gone a little in the same place. nowhere near as bad as yours though.

can just about get 4 fingers in my hole.

land rover owner international magazine (LRO) have something about disco boot repairs in march addtion. its on sale now. they are fixing up a rusty disco so may be worth getting urself a copy or check back issues to see if they got what u need.

i've found out what i need - the sill bit is called a 'rear cross member' - £130, and with everything else, total bill for parts of £320. i'll post photos of the end result, then it's on to the engine!!

Don't just buy the bits from a shop !!!. I got all my bits from Ebay and saved a fortune. Boot floor I got for £40 and the crossmembers a fiver each. Get yourself a cheap Focus grinder with some discs so it doesn't matter if it breaks. I even got a nice cheap welder. It's a bit of a pain getting the floor out, bit I managed to do it all in a weekend. Whilst you have the floor out, check the rear axle and suspension as well as you will have a nice big area to stand in. You don't need to weld everything perfectly. Although I managed to get the cross members in nicely, I got put bit spot welds around the floor and it was fine. Remember to put loads of underseal on the floor before you put it in. Good luck.

See if you can get a couple of back issues of Land Rover Owner International, I think it was the December / January / Feb issues that had a complete photo story on replacing a Disco floor

apart from the rear door cill hole, previous photo, this is the only other body rot ive got.
the rest of the car is in really good shape for a 16 yr old shed. looks at least half its age.
