Passed its mot - but- with following minor defect steering box has seepage and on advisories - steering damper bush worn
Off side rear brake pipe corroded
Off side rear suspension bump stop missing
Rear suspension component area corroded but not ecesssive
In your opinion do I walk away,I’m not mechanically minded, are these big money things ?

Welcome to the zoo.
I assume your talking about a TD5. Have the vehicle had any service certificates and past MOTs to browse. Most of the items you mention are trivial repairs but are raised on MOT'S for advisory purpose. Price wise depends on condition and whether it been used reasonable. Mileage is nothing for these engines as I say as long as they are well maintained hence service records. There will be better advise if you go to the Defender section.

Tha
^^^ is right.

2001 I would inspect underneath - chassis dissolved on both my Defenders. Personally for £10+G I would want a galv chassis already done then everything else is doable.
thank you,I’m finding it hard to find s decent one for that budget that’s a family car and not a shed. I’ve scoured all the usual autotrader type sites, haven’t seen any with galvanised chassis for that price

1) Welcome.

2) - the advisories you mention are a concern as they might indicate sporadic maintenance .... which is a lot less than ideal on a LR

3) pass / fail / pass / fail on MOT mostly confirms 2, so ..... as post #7, based on current info. :(

We'd need plenty of pics of "it", specially underneath to be able to comment properly ......:)

£17300 !!! I’ve had advice saying ‘there’s nothing too bad here’ on the general forum and the like to ‘run away’ too, this is doing my nut in
Opinions vary. A 2001 tratter can be a good motor. But it's also known that around this time of age the chassis can be beyond repair. If you are not familiar with tratters or able ter look at all the known weak spots, then take someone who does from oft ere. @Mackers had a difficult time with his purchase. The price it's worth and condition can vary quite a bit. It many have had all sorts of mods.

This is from its previous MOT (3 days before it passed) - strange how no mention of the chassis problems mentioned on the passed MOT or the emissions

Repair immediately (major defects):

  • Offside Rear Shock absorbers has a serious fluid leak (5.3.2 (b))
  • Exhaust emissions exceed manufacturer's specified limit plate limit 1.93 (8.2.2.2 (a))
Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
  • Windscreen damaged but not adversely affecting driver's view (3.2 (a) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Nearside Rear Integral body structure or chassis corroded within 30cm of a mounting, but not seriously affecting overall security (6.2.2 (d) (i))
  • Chassis has extensive surface corrosion
  • Both Rear chassis legs rusted through within 30cm of towbar mounting. Offside has been repaired with fibregl
