Hi guys,
I just wanted to get some advice. It might sound a bit simple, and I think I already know the answer. But I was hoping some kind expect on here might confirm things for me. :)
I've got a 1995 D1 300tdi with ABS. It's currently running on 235/70/16's. It's got completely standard height springs at the moment. While in most off road situations it doesn't have any issues at all, there have been one or two times I could have done with better articulation.
My question is, I'd like to add some larger tyres. Either 235/85/16 or 265/75/16's. For either of these two sizes could I get away with installing some 50mm flexi arches or do I need to lift the suspension by a couple of inches? I'm only tempted by the arches as I like the way she handles on the road at the moment, but a bit more give over rocky terrain would be really nice.

Mine are 285/75/16 and believe it’s had 4 inch lift - how it’s set up handles a dream on the road. Never taken her off road

Tread pattern would be a factor of choice, not the size of the tyre
