Spending my isolation time planning some adventures, and part of that is obviously off roading and green laning. Got my first disco a few weeks back (before all the isolation and lock down and all that jazz), so not done much in it apart from some motorway driving, and am fairly new to the Midlands.

I'm in Rugby, so any recommendations that are easy to get to or further afield much appreciated.

Where would you recommend a newbie to explore in their first D2?
Why is your recommendation so awesome?

Thanks in advance!

Green laning and off roading are different. Green laning is driving on legally driveable rights of way and off roading is driving on private land. For green laning, the green lane association is very good and gives access to their resources. Otherwise, you can join a local Land Rover club who will do guided trips. Likewise, there are companies that will do the same for a fee. There are local groups who go green laning on Facebook too.

For off roading, again you can join a club who will hold events or go to a local site who do pay and play days.

Be warned, the more you get into it, the more you’ll want to spend on modifying your Landy!

I've done some green laning in the past, but didn't know about the association, figured there was at least a better map than I have somewhere lol. Will defo look for some local green laning groups, as I do need more than what maps I have found. Thanks for the shout!

For off roading, I only really know of one place around here (Billing), so I guess I was looking for personal recommendations of other good places, as I only seem to be finding places that aren't pay to play, or that won't let you use your own vehicle.

I started a savings pot some years ago, when I first decided to get a landy... I have a feeling it's going to run out quickly when I start tinkering though!

Thanks Knappster!

A little late to the party I know, but, I'm based in Cov, used to live in Rugby (just off Addison Road). I also have a D2.

Have you made any modifications to your D2? I'd recommend a set of all terrain tyres (Muds are good, but a/t's will cope with the traction control on a D2). If you haven't done so already, underbody protection (ie dif guards, transmission guard etc) is a good idea although you probably won't need it on most lanes (although there are one or two lanes it's handy). Don't worry too much about a lift, mine hasn't been lifted, and I've rarely ever bottomed out, and followed defenders and been fine.
Are you on Facebook? Look up M.G.L.S. (Midland Green Laning Society), good bunch of people who know what they're doing, and know their vehicles too.

Feel free to PM me if you want to, whilst my D2 is currently not MOT'd, I'm looking to get it back on the road sometime in the new year and would be up for some lanes. You'd also be welcome to join me and a mate when we do our weekend trip to Snowdonia.
