Hi all

Looks like I'm now looking for an alternative insurer to Adrian Flux for my '84 110. I've been with them for years now, and I've only ever paid about £95ish for fully comp insurance on 10K miles.

Today I got my renewal. £250. To get it down I'd have to drop the mileage to about 1200 a year (although I only actually did around 600 miles last year and even less the year before, but who's to say I won't do 8k this year?).

So who can or would you advise? I never thought I'd have to post this kind of question as Adrian Flux have always been really good, but this year they just can't come close to what I've been paying.

Cheers!

I tried AF years ago and they didn't even know my car. A-plan did a good deal.
I was on a limited mileage but it was 4k If I remember.

Peter James, 1959 s2 and a 1993 90 both valued 6k, full comp/breakdown etc etc 205 quid for the pair on one policy.
Cant remember annual mileage but 3 or 6k rings a bell.

Thanks for that. I might well give them a ring tomorrow and see what they have to say. Not had a reply from Adrian Flux yet....

Seems like Peter James may well be getting my custom. Just rang them and with unlimited mileage it came in at £130. Bit more expensive than what I was paying, but not too bad I'd say. Going to have a ring round still and see what else I can find.

It's always best to ring around. When I insured my Hilux recently several insurers told me there was now a minimum charge, which tool my truck up by almost 40%.
I can't recall Adrian Flux being that sensitive to my needs and were around £80 over several others when I phoned around.
The Tonka ended up with Direct Line.

My defender is with Adrian Flux (Markerstudy) and runs out in June 23 and has been under £100 for the last 8 years too' although it's been gradually creeping up to the £100 mark over the last 3 years.
I find it fascinating that insurers don't really understand the risks (with me anyway) my landy isn't my 'daily drive' I will never 'claim' on the car, it's actually much cheaper for me to buy the parts and fit them myself.
If I clip a gate or a fence post or back into a wall and pop the lights i will fix it, i'm not going to call my insrance co.

I rarely drive the car on A roads to be honest and don't think I hit 1000 miles in a year.
I'm quite happy to have a £500 even a £1000 excess, don't need windscreen, don't need a car if mines off the road.
Why is it costing me more and more ?

I gave up even trying to understand insurance premium rates, even after 59 years of vehicle ownership o_O

Well I shopped around and got a reasonable deal with Peter Best. 10K miles, valued at a lot higher than I expected, and wasn't too bad a price.
Shame Adrian Flux couldn't keep me as a customer, but I suppose customer loyalty doesn't mean anything nowadays (if it ever did). it's all about getting new customers and doesn't really matter about the old ones. But that's a different rant altogether.....
