Need to adjust my hardbrake, lever comes up too high,
Ive got a disco v8 auto 98,
I removed the window switches, there is a wheel ontop of the handbrake cable, it turns but is very stiff, does this adjust the cable ? If so which way do you turn it to tighten the cable ?

adjuster for the brake shoes is on the back plate - 17mm socket is best fit, adjust them not the cable

While you are doing this it's worth checking for any oil leaking from the transmission. If it is leaking then the seal could be on it's way out. This oil contaminates the brake shoes and can effect the handbrake use.

adjust shoe first then take slack out of cable with adjuster you found may help to spray wd40 at underneath of adjuster threads get corroded

Handbrake holds car ok, so hoping not to have to take off prop, got a few bits to do for mot,
Just have to pull the lever too far up,
Any idea which way you turn bolt on back to tighten handbrake ?
I could just try it both ways, lol !

Thanks for guide busterbus, brilliant how - to's !

you dont have to take prop off .you turn it anti clockwise ,but you should still adjusy shoes then cable

hi the bolt is right hand thread so it has to rotate clockwise to open out the shoes. cheers elt.
