two points here and that is Scania and a couple of other companies have developed an engine that equals the emmissions without the adblue system and secondly,if the adblue runs out you can simply just top up with tap water and it runs fine.in simple terms
all the adblue system does is inject pigs pi$$ into the exhaust to cool it down ffs so,your actually paying for pigs pi$$ which i find incredible lol.

Not pigs **** at all and you cant top them up with water as the ecu will know and will de rate the power same as if you had not topped up at all and ad blue does more than cool down the exhaust !

Weve had farmers try the same on tractors with ad blue and they had to drain the tank to get it out

So far no major problems with the systems but time will tell

There are other ways out there to meet the emissions but most manufactures have chosen ad blue

Adblue is Urea and deionised water, when injected into the exhaust it turns into ammonia which breaks down NOx into N2 and H2O in the down stream cat. After the cat is a post cat NOx sensor. We have a machine at work for refilling the DEF tank but stores also stock 2 ltr bottles of the stuff so you can top up if need be.
