Really?? never have I seen a single MOT test the front fogs?

Yes really ALL warning lamps (telltales) MUST function as far as i am aware. But on reading MOT manual it would seem all reference to this and operation of front fogs or spot lamps has been deleted. So maybe you are correct. A bit confused by that.

I always thought if a light is fitted it must work?

Think that only applies to obligatory lamps. You can't for instance say my lights don't work but i only use the car in the daylight. That would not wash. In that case if it's fitted it must work. All reference to spot lamp, fog lamp, driving lamp operation and operation of their tell tales has been left out of latest MOT manual as far as i can see. Got to be something wrong there.

I had a classic mini with 3 lamps on a bar across the front,(must have been around 1999 / 2000 ish) I was told that lamps must be fitted in pairs and working for the MOT I removed them and refitted once I passed. Next year same car, different lamps 2x Cibie Oscar 2x Cibie Tango (round) lamps left in place but I’d forgot to connect the loom (removable front end) and the MOT guy said nothing, I asked and he said they wasn’t part of the test?

Moving on to March this year, I had my fogs in the bumper but had not changed the eleccy connectors as was removing the bumper a few weeks later and planned on doing it then, so fog lamps not working, MOT passed and they were never checked? 2 weeks later, changed the connectors for some sureseal ones and been fine since?

Seems to have been deleted. Sure there was stuff about spots not allowed to work without head lamps and must be tell tailed. No fogs without side lamps and tell tailed. But it seems to have gone. So hay ho the world is an happier place.

Just had an MOT on my defender I have non functioning spots on the front no advisory no nothing passed with flying colours

Front fogs are seperate from rear fogs and have to be enabled in the BECM. the wiring is always there though.
