Im after an action camera, possibly two, to record my off road antics. My phone has an excellent camera but itys being used as sat nav, memory map and MP3 player so I can't use it for a camera as well. For stills I have a DSLR so im just adfter a cheap, reasonable quality camera I can mount and forget.

I would prefer one with SD cards as I can plug these straight into my laptop but its not essential. I dont want to spend more than £50 on one so I cant afford a go-pro.

Any suggestions?

GoPro... there's nothing better than that in the market at the moment.

I have one, use it for off roading, on the track bike, etc...

fully waterproof up to 60m, does a max of 1080p HD, records also on other video modes, I mainly use 720p, its more than enough for all kinds of environment..

on 720p you can also record at 60fps or 120fps, perfect for slow motion shots as it doesnt loose any quality when you watch it back.

Also shoots stills, takes pics every x seconds, so its good for timelapses.. does loads of stuff mate.

If you want an action camera, dont look any further, there's nothing better than this on the market.

Have a look at some of the videos on youtube and you'll see the video quality.

On the LZ trip to the plains I did the video editing with stills and video from my GoPro, halfway through it I did a slow motion bit.. just see how good the image is even on slow motion...

and this one using the GoPro taking pics every 5 secs and then putting it all together using Final Cut Pro

You are best off looking for a cheap compact that does half decent video. If not maybe consider upgrading your DSLR as most new ones have built in HD video modes now. Best of all though would be a GoPro.. I'm not sure if anyone sells them second hand but it might be worth looking into?

I use my old canon sureshot 530 which is a compact camera with a video facility.

works fine, and they are reasonably cheap now as they are quite an old camera now.

uses sd cards too.

Toshiba Camileo b10

This is what I use ... fab quality and the price you're after. Use mine in the phone holder looking through the windscreen. Uses SD cards too :)

I have seen these but was unsure on the quality, dont suppose you got an example vid have yah?

I would like a gopro but its too much for me to spend on something that is pretty much gonna stay in my disco. I had thought about just getting an old compact but again im not going to use it as a camera and im not sure on the quality of some of them... Definitly an idea though, might have a look on eGay and see what the older ones are going for...
