Hi, moved to Irish Republic a couple of years ago and left my TD5 in the UK - now have a sshh don't thump me Freelander. ;)
Looking to buy a Series 2 , 3 as used to have an old SA2. Anyone know of a 'trustworthy' place to buy in Wales as nearest ferry Rosslare to Pembroke..... :D

I know freelanders get a lot of stick but they are capable machines imho they did a camel trophy after all.

always seems to be a good selection of private sales for series' in wales
 
Pembrokeshire is an agricultural coonty. It's full of defenders. In north part you don't see many series landys. Try googling the local dealers. Also worth checking the classified in the local and regional newspapers. Also suggest you trawl right over South Wales.

Hi lads; thanks for the help. Looking for a series 2/3 in good nick for under £8000. Would get another defender but the tax here is about €2250 plus VRT - about £1750. If I get a 'vintage' (pre 1987) then tax is €56 + €50 VRT. Car tax is just going up 'n' up over here and a lot of companies are even refusing to insure a car +15 years old. Also they only count one year of my 38 years UK NCD so my insurance is a heavy €810 for the Freelander.
Series landies are also in my heart as my old one 'Rosy' though she was green, was a real 'character' - you will know what I mean as a Series owner. Not bothered if the next one is a hard-top, SWB; LWB; station wagon so long as it is sound. There are so many 'dodgy' one's out there; it's hard to see the wood from the trees. Looked at a couple of station wagons over here who had just had the riggers done but on lifting the oil filler cap one was thick creamy sludge and the other was rotten out in front of gearbox. Described as immaculate :D

Hey Timmy thanks for the offer - would appreciate that; also let you know if I see any I'm interested in. See my other post for requirements - basically under £8000 and sound.

Yeah; I know what you're saying but for me they are a car and no matter how I try I can't get to love it. They don't rattle; they do let the water in (the boot box) they are quiet and fast; comfortable; sort of reliable but they have to be deep cleaned if you chuck sheep in the back; dog hairs from my 3 hounds get everywhere and eat their way in the material; you have to cover the boot space when you throw in sacks of feed or cement etc..... should say that I live on a farm. Have Mitsubishi jeep for farm work but is is 'off-road' only (not taxed or insured). Only do about 3K on road each year so a Series would suit me grand. Would also be able to cross our river bridge when it floods - with the freelander I am stuck. ;)

No problem ill keep my eyes open and ask around for you. Also If you need it dropping at Pembroke dock and put on as unaccompanied freight then I'm sure something can be arranged.!
 
Interesting situation over there for running costs. Somewhere in S Wales your landy must be waiting. You should in theory get a very good one at around £8K.

Yeah - fuel relatively cheap but tax and insurance horrendous compared to UK. One neighbour has 23 year old golf and no-one will insure it not even 3rd party unless you stonk out a massive €1370 and the guy has been driving 40 years claim free.. Another neighbour has 21 year old Starlet and full NCD - costs her €620 insurance and nearly as much road tax plus NCT (MOT).....ROI rapidly becoming a place of under 10 year old cars.......Beware as Aviva and Allianz started it all and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. Luckily I prefer the old stuff :) so a SERIES will suit me fine.

I only have the Santa Fe when in Pembrokeshire. Too far away to bring the Landy from Scotland. I'd love to have it there for the lanes and quiet roads.
