Hi All,

I have just removed my ACE system and will be installing the new mod kit sometime this week, (some spare parts on eBay.)

Will the discos SLS work fine with the new mod anti roll bars and what will the Corning be like?

If there is anyone close has the tec to turnoff the ace light please give me a price, I am in the west end, Newcastle Upon Tyne 10 mins from the Airport?

Cheers

Mark

the cornering will not be as good off course but noticeable only if you'll go with a loaded roof rack/full car with some speed in curves, otherwise your brain will convince you that you didnt make a mistake by binning it:)... the SLS will be just fine...about the warning light, you can DIY with a piece of wire by bridging pins 11 with 36 in the ACE ECU's plug, see attachment and do not mix pins...and don't touch any fuse as by removing ACE related fuse the light will come on not go off

Seems sound advice cannot wait to get it sorted and find out.

You know of a good bridging technique for these type of plugs?

Cheers

Philip took his ACE off his D2 ES and converted to springs, body roll is not markedly different, the ARB's are something like 30mm solid steel.

Got to do mine when the dust settles after the France trip.

now that's a strange question... or insert a paperclip or wire in those female pins or cut and join the wires.... or what ever you do, do somehow to close that circuit:cool:

I ll try the paper clip technique, any risk to the ECU short or long term by doing this?

risc to which ECU?...i never give advices which could hurt something... that bridge is what the ACE ECU does internally to extinguish the warning

Hardly the right way though, eh?

I'd be raging if I got a car with the light off, and found someone had spliced ECU plugs rather than disabled things properly by programming!

dont buy it from this guy then;)... when you "disbale" the ACE with tester that's what happens, cos you dont disable the system just the warning light... it's completed an earth path with voltage within the instrument pack's internal circuit through an electronic switch commanded by the diagnostic software as the ACE light to stay off... it's nothing wrong with this thing ... not worst than stripping a good enhancement like the ACE rather than fix it in the first place

Sounds like you have an extensive knowlage on the circuitry of the disco 2.

So using hawk eye or the bridging technique both do the same thing as the ACE system in the ECU can never really be switched off or re-programmed.

Thanks for the advice guys.

what you must understand is that if the ACE is removed, usually the ACE ECU is removed too so you can't say you re-program the "ACE system in the ECU" cos ACE has it's own ECU and if you mean the engine ECU when you say ECU then this one is for engine management and has nothing to do with ACE...in a nutshell you disable only the warning lamp with tester as the system being already removed you have nothing else to disable on it... bridging those wires you complete an earth path as to keep the warning lamp off...the instrument pack has it's own internal circuit to switch on and off warning lamps on tester request ....see attachment if you want to understand

I'm surprised at that Sierrafery - most people that 'remove things' seem to do as little work as possible, so here at least the ECU is usually in situ.

I just dislike it when people cut/splice plugs rather than doing things properly. I understand it is electrically 'the same', but the point is that if someone comes along and tries to recondition/reenact the system it causes confusion.

For example, if someone reactivates ACE, then when there's an ACE fault the light won't come on because the splice is done in the plug.

If there's a 'right way' the manufacturer intended, I always try to do that in the first case, even if it requires the correct tool (e.g. nanocom/hawkeye)

My dislike of 'hacking' came from the fact that when I bought my disco2, the ACE light was on, so the 'dealer' opened up the instrument cluster and tore the SMD LED off the PCB :-(

New anti roll kit fitted at last and looking forward to a bit off roading this weekend.

Took the discovery around some sharp corners and have no complaints with the mod kit.

For information any one who needs the size of the auxiliary belt for the kit you need a dayco 7pk 1750.

If the warning light is bridged out in this way, Will it still come on when the ignition is turned on and go through its self test mode?

No, when I got mine a few months ago the pump had been removed and ace disconnected but all the pipes, valve, and roll bars had not, I have now removed everything and put on standard roll bars, just we wondered how my control had been disabled cos I have no self test lights.
