In the latest series of things that have gone broke broke on the long road to discovery recovery...

The high pressure ACE pipe (from pump towards block) got sliced by the crankshaft pulley (I put it on the wrong side of the coolant hose after dropping engine back in - oops). Ordered a new one in, fitted but now there doesn't seem to be anything going on with the pump. The fluid just sits there, still as a mill pond.

Followed priming instructions from sierrafery found on another post (removed engine management relay and cranked while banjo from pump outlet disconnected), but no fluid coming through whatsoever. No kinks in reservoir feed.

I'm breaking up another disco so have access to a spare pump, but same deal - it won't prime. (the breaking disco has ACE bypass, so wouldn't surprise if that pump is also shot).

Before I buy a replacement, could there be any other reason the pump is failing to draw fluid through?

Shame you're so far away, I have one in the garage and the disco has gone to a new home. Don't suppose the LZ courier service is still running?

Hmmmm that would be amazing, but yeah, we're far away! I could send a courier (DPD) to pick it up if you don't mind printing a label, wrapping it in something and sticking it into a box? I can send you a bit of cash for it too...

But no worries if not - as sierrafery says, there are working pumps out there that won't break the bank...

You're more than welcome to it, It has been in the garage for a couple of years and was working when I removed the ace due to a busted pipe but I can't guarantee 100%. If you are happy to get a courier to pick it up then I can easily print a label. If you want to get a price for delivery from Atherton, Manchester (M46 postcode area) and give me a shout.

I've just checked, and It's only around £15 to have DPD pick up and deliver, which is pretty damn good.

What's the best way to exchange details on here?
 
Massive thanks to @backinblack for sending his old pump, but frustrastingly still no joy! That's three pumps that aren't drawing fluid through.

Reservoir full and connected to the IN, nothing blocked, outlet banjo disconnected. Prime attempt -
Pulley disconnected and wound by hand = no fluid.
Pulley connected to belt, turn engine over = no fluid.

Should I fill the pump before priming? Is there any way to check if the pump is bust by inspection?

I find it hard to believe all three pumps are dead. But the two replacements are used, so it is possible...
 
You're more than welcome I'm just sorry it still isn't working. I did spin the pulley and could hear the air making a sort of puff puff puff or was it a fff fff fff noise :confused:so pretty sure it was working.
Hopefully it is just a priming issue.
 
I should also add that it was packaged exquisitely!

Yeah all three pumps make that noise. I took one of them apart to inspect and can't seem to find anything obvious - actually all looked pretty good
 
I would suggest filling pump up with oil before fitting, or slacken a joint at the block as I reckon it is air locked.

When I repaired mine I did not move the pump so it stayed OK but I did not tighten the compression joints and block joints until fluid seeped out.

I haven't really touched the block itself as only thing I did was replace the front pressure pipe which connects to the pump (and then to another pipe which connects to the block).

Also lately I've been trying to prime the pump, so its only connected to the reservoir...

I will try filling the pump and report back.

On a side note, i was thinking last night that the original and replacement pumps all had a fair amount of fluid in them when I removed/attached them (as it was messy) so unlikely they had failed from running dry.
