Hello, my disco 2, diesel, auto, 2003, ace has a leak under osf wheel. Garage has tried to replace pipes, but due to age, pipes sheared off at block. Have told us is unviable to carry on due to labour costs and new parts etc. I'm not that up on this sort of thing (sorry). Read on here that if I take relay out the pump is safe. Does it just switch off pump? Is pump purely electrical or is there a fan belt driving it? Apart from car lolling around on bends, any other risks to engine? Sorry for so many daft questions. hi unfortunatly the garage is correct in some way to replace the whole ace system prob looking at 2k . yes there is a relay you can pull out that locks the rams i beleive , someone be along to say which one . Other option's would be to buy a non ace part's ie- Pully /belt and front and rear anti roll bar's and fit or as i've done and so many other's convert it to a modified ace block and hydrolic hose which would be in keeping with what's already on the discovery also would you be doing the work yourself or garage ?
 
Pump is belt driven and needs to be removed and replaced with an idler pulley & different belt. You also need to remove pipework from the rams and cap them off so they are solid or replace the ARBs with ones designed for ACE removal.
 
I repiped mine for less than the cost of a removal conversion.

Got block machined to take BSP fittings, 4 hoses to the rams and short hoses to the engine pipes.

Thanks for your reply. Bit above my pay grade so would be garage except they said they wouldn't do it. Sad to say we're looking at selling or scrapping!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately we would have to pay someone to do it for us and the cost is getting too high so unfortunately the car is going to have to go!
 
Its really not very difficult to organise and is a lot easier than getting a new vehicle. You can buy a modded block off the shelf (ebay), get pipes from hydraulic supplier locally and they would probably fit it also. Or a decent LR specialist.
 
I have been running hydraulic hoses for about 4 years. My pipes had fractured at the flanges in the block
