You will find quite a few people have removed ARBs from D1 and D2s' if they do a lot of greenlaning or P&Ps.

They just make sure to change their driving style accordingly.

Cheers
Quite!
I should have qualified it with, "...on road".
"Anti-roll bars were unusual on pre-war cars due to the generally much stiffer suspension and acceptance of body roll. From the 1950s on, however, production cars were more commonly fitted with anti-roll bars, especially those vehicles with softer coil spring suspension."
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-roll_bar
So they are a relatively new invention, but then in those days most cars drove on cart springs.
The history of different types of suspension, anti-tramp bars, Panhard rods, Watts linkages, etc etc, is fascinating but this isn't the place to discuss it!
The off-road blokeys must drive very gingerly on the way home from their P&P or whatever, unless they trailer them. ;)

I treat mine as a jack of all trades and master of laning.

Good loadlugger
Comfortable
Good driving position
Not too slow
Handles OK (not bad, not brilliant, driven many worse road only cars)
Rides OK (Not bad, been in worse, been in better)
Brilliant in the snow
Extremely practical

The one thing which puts me off RRC* and D1 is body roll.

* Was 3 door and rolled like a Citroen pedal car, yet I still liked it, pre driving licence so mid to late 70s

D1 is body roll.

I took the advice of an Indy about this, fitted GAZ shocks and it made a heck of a difference made it as good as a D2 with ACE if not better, till I put the HD springs on:rolleyes:, which gave me a 2" lift. Then it went to being as good as a D2 with ACE. The stiffer springs helped though.

ACE is absolutely ridiculous to have on them these days.
Most are 20years old or getting on for that age and mileage is into hundreds of thousands of miles.
The pipes are an absolute fortune to replace, and if it leaks fluid out you’re either on fire ,stranded or both.
As soon as mine started weeping i ripped it all off and chucked the lot in the scrap bin.
I run HD springs on my disco and now currently run no Arb’s at all temporarily.....
It does lean a bit more in corners but it’s a 2.5 ton 4x4 with special tracks on,not like it’s fast or fun through corners!
Seriously though, its a complete liability unless you plough hundreds into completely revamping the system.

Put gas shocks on it, good uns, it'll help. Unless you are going to replace the ACE with fixed arbs. And even then.......

I run the supergaz currently that I got as a kit a couple of years ago, they’re ok,a world better than what was on standard!
Il see how it performs on the lanes and off road before I make a decision regarding the arb staying off.
Absolutely will not be returning to ace though.

Fur enuff!!
Mine is fine at the moment, but if it busts I'll find a way of just locking the ARBs into a neutral position, maybe replacing the rams with bars. Then dismantling the rest of the stuff. Any bits that are OK would prolly fetch a bit on the market!:):):)

Ooops!
Know what you mean. If I still smoked and had matches or a lighter on me I think one or two of my vehicles might have gone up!
