I know the Range Rover classic is a great car that has looks and great power, but is it supposed to be so slow, i have just bought a manual and it seems far too slow for a v8, i know its 2.5 tonnes, but is there anything you can do.

Firstly i'd try and drive an identical car to see whether theres much difference,my 2.5tdi is not quick but good enough

are your gas lines ok? how about your vapouriser? is it freezing up? is the mixture set correctly? has it just started doing it or has it always done it on gas? is the timing correct? (you need to adjust it to run gas)

Mate i dont know, i have had the car 4 days and as far as i know and can see and have been told, it has had a new vapouriser, but it was as slow as a snail from day 1 to now. He told me there were two adjustments for idle and mixture, but i have no literature or manuas, i need to drive tomorrow aswell.

Right.....

anyone know the standard ignition timing? adivance it by 2-3* (assuming you have a dizzy that is)
if its a 3.5 fit a 3.9 camshaft it will bring the power back up
richen up the muxture on gas in the same way you would an old skool carb

in that case you could fit a hotter cam from someone like kent cams or piper cams i think you should have rovers gems system on your engine so you wont be able to adjust you timing too easy (i haven't done much with gems) if you have a propper dizzy mark where it is then tweek it anti-clockwise a fraction, then take it for a test drive if its better and does not 'pink' leave it there if it gets worse tweek it the same amout the other way and test it again

right i have done some research! you should have a dizzy! at the base of it will be a clamping plate(i think its been a while) mark the currant position of the dizzy in relation to the block (tipex/correction fluid is good for this) (make sure the area is clean first) loosen the clamping plate enough that you can rotate the dizzy, now rotate it approx 3* anti-clockwise and lock the plate back up and test drive if it is more slugish/ backfires rotate the dizzy the othe way by the same amount and try again
