I pressed the tennis balls and nothing came out. Should I stick anything up to see if they are blocked, or assume all is fine?

don't poke anything up, it could snag and puncture the tubes....causing you more leaks!!!

Open sun roof a pour a small amount of water into each of the front drain holes. Wait a few minutes and see if water drips out of both drain exits. If it does, all is okay, if not you have a blockage or dislocated pipe.

Before anything will come out they have to be connected to the base of the heater in the first place. Some d***head had been into mine to do the blend motors and left lots of heater ducting and the drains disconnected. Fasteners missing. So i took the dash out and the heater unit to free it off then reconnected everything. The heater works properly now for the first time since i bought the car. Never underestimate the stupidity of those who have gone before.
