gidday,

just acquired a 98 RR DSE and the abs light stays on until you drive off. According to the hand book it should illuminate upon starting and then extinguish after a few seconds. If it does not extinguish until you drive off, it indicates a fault, so i assume i have a fault. Once i drive off the light goes out and stays out so i guess that it is not a major fault, does anybody have any ideas as to what it may be, or what i should be checking?
 
all the ones ive had do that,,, thought it was a fault at first but its ok if goes out once you start moving....
 
Cheers, i noticed a thread on here that mentioned thats the case, my brother in law says his rr is the same also. I won't chase it any further and i'll save my self some cash.
 
ABS light stays on until vehicle reaches around 10 mph. That is the working speed of the system it does not work below that speed. All that is happening is the system is confirming a signal from all four wheels, then it is happy and the lamp goes out.

Think you may have miss read the manual, mine clearly states that the ABS light should go out a few seconds after the vehicle moves off.
 
Just had the same thing, start-up, ABS, Brake & TC all lights on, after a while all off, then they kept coming back on. Thought it might be a glitch in the system, WRONG, full ABS system went 'Kaput' just cost me an arm-leg, so be carefull, have it checked out at a dealers.

Yeah it's the the coming back on bit that's the clue. If they go out and stay out shortly after you move off all is well.
 
Cheers guys, thats a relief, i noticed it when i first picked it up and the $ signs flashed before my eyes. Still got a couple of small issues to sort out with it so will be asking a few more questions over the next few days.

I did say around 10 mph, i think 7 is around 10 somewhere. It may well be 7 on both. But i think around ten was good enough to get the answer over without going through the full vehicle specs don't you ? :)
 
The ABS light goes out somewhere between 1 and 160mph........ or between 1 yard and 20 miles of travel-SORTED!!!!:behindsofa:

Dear Aunty Irish,
Mine goes out after 20 miles and 3 1/2". Do i have a problem?

Looks like you have big problems Keith. Try fitting a power box and K&N filter that should sort it. At least you will have twice the power and use less fuel doing the 0.00025 MPH.
