Hi my defender td5 has started making absTC noises during normal road driving at slow speeds mini roundabouts are typical . Only on right hand bends never on a left .Nothing on nanocom and taken to my local land rover specialist in Cheltenham nothing comes up on the computer they use no faults readings to sensors fine . They are going to look into it and get back to me .Has anyone had similar problems with this ?

What year is she, and is she a 90 or 110?
Computers can't tell if you have worn bushes, so check them.
Don't go to a stealer, go to a good indi and let them check her out for you because a crow bar will find a lot of things that a puter won't!

Hi it's a 90 and yes thought wheel bearings was a contender I have taken it to Tim fry Cheltenham they are sort of big independent . They don't know what it is but are looking into the most likely option before they take it apart !

Possibly the constant velocity joint too. I'm not sure if ABS or TC have a distinctive noise, but mechanical wear and tear certainly do!

It turns out the ABS Modulator is off a discovery and its not compatible must have been fitted before they purchased it and then hence before I purchased it . So hopefully swap it for a defender one and sorted .

I've heard that they are interchangeable and several peeps have done so successfully. Especially as the Disco ones are cheap and plentiful unlike the Defender ones which are expensive and rare. Apparently the pipe connections are labelled differently between the two but it does not seem to make any difference once connected up. All this is third hand though as I've not swapped one myself. Just saying.

Well the truth is I don't know but having done some internet research myself what you say sounds correct but the parts suppliers have not jumped on the bandwagon of selling discounted discovery parts to defender owners and the part numbers don't match ! I wish a main dealer parts supplier would clear this one up for us .

No main dealer will tell you they are interchangeable because they want to sell you an expensive part and also do not want to leave themselves open to any claims if things go wrong.

When I got my Defender I had the three amigos and the LR main dealer told me it needed a new modulator and shuttle valve assembly. As I did not have the money and the brakes appeared to work OK I left it for a while. I then borrowed Ratty's Nanocom and did a power flush and bleed on the ABS system. Guess what? The three Amigos disappeared never to return and I went and bought my own Nanocom with the money I had saved. So much for new parts required. If the dealer had replaced the modulator they would have bled the system and thrown a perfectly good modulator away at my expense.

I also have a Subaru Outback that the main dealer correctly told me needed an upstream Lambda sensor and that only a very expensive (£224 +vat) Subaru item would fit and work properly. I had a spare downstream sensor from my old Volvo T4 which physically fitted and even had the correct electrical connector. It cost me £68 +vat. As I already had it cluttering up my shed I fitted it myself and it continues to work just fine some two years later.

All I'm saying is sometimes there are options to expensive main dealer parts.
