Hello Troopers

Trying to sort a ABS problem on a 2006 TD5 110 which has sat for a couple of years SORN'd, the ABS stays on constantly, IIRC vehicle did not have this problem before it was SORN'd. The battery had lost all charge, alarm/immobiliser all working fine.

I have no diagnostics, but is there a usual suspect for the ABS light staying on?

Will be checking sensors and possible bleed at each corner in case of gunk build up!

Any pointers appreciated before I have to get an expensive diagnostics call out!
Cheers

The only way to really check is to get the codes read.

Give the ECU a good inspection, after such a long lay up it might have suffered from some water ingress.

Do get the codes read, but I'd be in there checking the sensors and the wheel bearings myse.f One of the things that always infuriated me about the ABS on LRs is the slidey sensors - never owned one where I didn't have to get in on a yearly basis and shove them in to readjust them.

Also, should you find that fixes it but temporarily, have a look to the wheel bearings if on the back. The reluctor ring being inside the disc will allow it to malfunction if the wheel bearings are loose.

ajr

Also check all the wheel connectors as they can corrode and go high/open circuit. Mine (three amigos) was sorted with a fluid power flush and re-bleed.

Thanks troopers,

Had a brief look at the main points, all looks good. no corrosion or jammed parts
After idling the engine for 20min, then drove back and forward a few times on the drive, on final run I powered up in 1st gear, then slammed on the brakes...............

the ABS light went out instantly  :D

Will keep an eye on it until MOT'd, hopefully its not an intermittent thing?

Will report back if so,

Thanks again

Another update,

I haven't devoted much time to this wagon and after several weeks battery had lost charge again.

After a proper 12hr charge (not just jump start) the ABS light was back on

It seems that pumping the brake hard several times seems to clear the fault and the light goes out instantly. It appears that the loss of charge is tripping the fault?

ISTR the ABS pumps etc will sulk big time if not enough joice from the battery - sounds a likely source of the problem.... Good luck, A
