I believe it is only 1 possibility but...On each wheel is a speed sensor and cable, the cable has a plug and socket if memory serves, you may choose to take of each wheeel and look for the speed sensor cable and check for damage and undo and re do the plug, squirt a bit of Wd 40 etc for good measure, not hoigh chance of sucess but zero cost. I had a similar issue when it rained, once Diagnosed it was a sensor fault and on inspection found the insulation on one cable was "cracked", new speed sensor ( came with relevant cable as one , of course, sorted issue.
NOTE as one of the guys mentioned it could be a wheel bearing on the way out, the play in the bearing would cause mos alignment of the sensor and so fault... as knackered bearing will get costly if allowed to go on give each wheel a wiggle when jacked up to check it isn't this. ( I think bearing would hav eto be well buggered to cause that much play and you would hear it, but... Cheers Michael

Hi, I had the same problem with my '02 Defender. A dodgy mechanic I was using told me the ABS/TC Modulator needed replacing, which he did at a cost to me of $3500 AUD. I've since found that the probable cause was most likely just a bit of grit in one of the sensors. It's happened a couple of times since then, but eventually sorts itself out. The ABS & TC seems to be working just fine....Scotty.
P.S. I've also found another L/R mechanic.;)

Pluged in to read codes, Came up with shuttle valve faulty. so i bought secondhand modulator on ebay. Was about to get it fitted but i had to drive to cotswolds that week end.some:):) how its cleared itself, ive done about 600 miles and still no lights on

I had the same problem and was told new modulator/shuttle etc. by LR main dealer.
Fooked if I was paying the prices they wanted for that so I simply flushed and bled the brakes.
Guess what? Never had a problem since.
LR technician had a sense of humour failure when I went back and asked why he did not suggest or try bleeding the system first before trying to rip me off. After he turned purple and told me to **** off he quickly changed his mind when I fronted him.
His manager was not overly helpful either so fired off a complaint to head office.
Got absolutely nothing back so shows what the dealers think of the little guy.

But... i dont wanna get me hands dirty :p

Done my sensors today but still have lights assume it needs some kind of reset or i still have a problem somewhere.

Its very messy especially if your td5 is as dirty as mine, wheel off caliper off, disc off, undo hub 4 bolts, pull hub will give enough clearance to get sensor out then, clean it all up, new sensor and o ring, and refit everything anf torque back up.

I am desperate to borrow/ hire a hawkeye for a disco 2 td5, want to try before i buy

I will try anything but I too had this problem and was told shuttle valve fault. Usual quotes etc so decided to do the shuttle valve fix. I bought a new one first and all was fine for a few weeks but then 3 amigos came back every now and then.
Decided to do the mod on the original shuttle valve and fitted it without any real problem (apart from losing one bolt).
Never seen the 3 amigos again and didn't even really get my hands dirty.
I would try the shuttle valve earth mod first. It won't cost a bean.

If anyone wants a new shuttle valve let me know.
