Hi,
After 18 months without I am about to go back to owning a disco again :)
Previously had a 300tdi ES but we are looking at going newer this time so will be the first of the face lifted disco 2.
We are going to look at a mint condition 02 automatic Metropolis (pre rear DVD) tomorrow which has full history etc and sounds like a really nice straight car with 130k.
Is there anything to watch out for with this spec? Also seller has said he will replace the Airbag suspension for normal suspension for free as he can keep parts as he is a garage as well. I like the idea of keeping it as is if it really is as original as it sounds but would be interested in your opinions :)
Lastly what sort of price would you guys expect to pay for it from a garage?

Thanks
Suz

If the air works, I'd keep it. Put your ear to the header tank cap straight after the test drive and listen for pressure release. Walk away if it does. The auto doesn't suit the td5. It changes gear too late.

Where you based? I have a 2002 TD5 ES, mint condition with 91k on the clock. Not looking to sell, but if the price is right, I might be tempted to part with her, don't use her enough.

Watch out for corrosion at the rear of the chassis.
It can usually be repaired but something to think about, I've seen some very rusty 04s

Hi, we are up in Norfolk :)

Gonna check this one tomorrow and see what I think and then will see what the plan is from there lol might be in touch, although would have to sell the current car first if buying. Private :)

The chassis on the D2 is a well known problem for rusting, badly.check the rear sections especially, the area near the fuel tank is particularly suspect.Ask me how i know.

it is a disco, check and double check,I have a td5 es auto, great fun more torque than 300tdi,full service cost about £150 to do it yourself.

I'm assuming you've already been to look but if not; and I'm sure you already know but, check the roof lining for any staining particularly the front corners, I missed it when getting mine, two failed attempts at pulling down the lining and resealing everything later I've attacked it with silicone on top and I'll be blanking them in the summer when it's dryer.

Chassis, chassis and chassis! I was looking at face lifts on around 04s and some were really bad. I ended up buying an X reg as it had the best chassis I came across.

Check chassis like your life depends on it.. also check coolant levels and smell the dipstick for any signs of derv.. also when the engine is hot open the oil filler cap, if its puffing a lot (blow by) keep looking on to next

Why do they want to remove the air suspension? Is it faulty? If it's not leave it in (much better, especially towing) and think about replacing it IF it goes wrong.
