Just wondering, how difficult on a scale of 1-10 would it be to convert an ex-MOD Series 3 Ambulance into a camper? Assume that the vehicle doesn't need any work doing to it to get it roadworthy. Just thought it would be an awesome project, and an awesome vehicle once it's done. Go-anywhere camper. :)

As easy or as difficult as you want it to be. An ambulance body with the stretchers still in it could be used as it is but you might want to change things, or you could strip the whole insides out of it and start from scratch. For what it's worth what you'll end up with is a big, slow, uncomfortable and very likely unreliable thing that won't probably make much of a contribution to enjoyable camping, and being big and heavy probably won't "go anywhere" either.

One suggestion, look for a small second hand caravan (no, not "and tow it"). This would give you a source of pre-formed interior components suited to the space you have, give you ideas for solutions to problems etc. Probably cheaper in the long run than buying all the bits. Your are obviously not too worried about the exterior.

At the end you have the added bonus of a decent trailer chassis.

Aye, that's a good idea actually. I do need a trailer, too. I think they look pretty awesome on the exterior anyway... I might just paint over the red cross... at a push!

You'll need to get rid of the red cross otherwise you will be in contravention of the Geneva Convention Act 1957.

I'm a dead hit at parties...

if you're after caravan interiors then keep an eye on the banger racing websites for a caravan meet. They have to strip them out, windows and everything before they can race. Went to one some months back and all the racers just dumped the stuff in a big pile along with the wrecked caravans at the end of night and it all got cleared away in one go. Friend of my brothers bought a tatty old van to race but all of the fittings still worked when he got it, 3 way fridge, 3 burner oven etc, running water sink, the whole lot skipped!!

Some dumbass paid nearly 800 quid for one the other day....It was on buy it now for 595.
