There's no moss growing on you is there.

Good to see another lump sat ready for your attention, looks clean on the outside, hopefully it's even better on the inside.

Aye, no time to mess about bud :) Well their is actually, but after finding out the last engine was f*cked I wanted to just say bollocks to it.
But in the end I decided it way silly keep thinking about it and what if's.
So another engine was bought asap to distract from the fact. Just a shame it's skinted the project funds

Yeah looks like a clean engine hopefully it's a good one.

Aye, cheers bud. It doesn't look too bad.

Well, you know I'm interested in the motor bud. Ping me a PM as I would like 1st dibs.

What parts would you be wanting to keep for yourself?

Oh and with the "new" motor, pull the sump and main/big-end caps.... Pics if your unsure :)

Yep that's the plan bud :)

So yesterday evening I got the engine painted. Luckily I had some left from last time.
Then today I set about fitting it.
So, engines in. Gearbox in, transferbox in and started bolting a few bits and bobs back onto the engine.
Not going to put all the interior back together completely this time, will do some testing first.
So probably got half a day or so to finish up what's left. Fill all oils, fit props, bottom water hose, alternator, intercooler and a little bit of wiring.

Jumping Jesus! Is that motor in already!? Your a star mate.

So. I'm presuming that you pulled the bearing caps and they're all as new?

Bloody hell Aaron you don't mess about do you.

Let me know when you have finished it, Then if you like you can come and get mine done, as i'm sick of the f***ing thing :ballchain:

nice and fast mate! I'm impressed

Hard work had already been done :) So easy(ish) this time around bud.
Engine in is easy. Gear box is a ####, too f*cking heavy, for a lightweight like me anyway

LEGEND :)

:praise:

Thanks, I think :p:)

Aaron, you don't hang around!

I'd say theirs no time to hang around but at the mo that's kinda not true.
But still the fact remains I just want it finished now :)

Never a truer word spoken...I doff my cap :)

Cheers bud :)

Yep it's in, went through what I had to do tonight and probably got more than the half day I said, but still less than a days work.
I pulled the bearing caps one evening in the week and all look very good, amazing difference to the others I removed

 I'm sick of this f*cking thing too
I need to start afresh with another I think, my interest in this has dwindled slightly with the problems I've had.
But I'll probably get told off if I get another :( Seen a couple of late too :(
Yours should be getting easier by now bud :) Stick with it and you'll get their in the end. I'd offer assistance if I was closer.

I'd love to do a 130 double cab pick up, but I can't fit anything on the drive bigger than a 90 so kinda screws that idea.
So 90's it is. Hoping to pick another up soon  Be nice to start a fresh and forget this for a while, before I get too ****ed off with it

Well I managed to grab a couple of hours yesterday and a couple of hours this evening.
Mostly back together now, just the middle section of exhaust to put on and that's as far as I'm going for now.
A slight boost was getting the engine started :) made me smile for a little while as I was getting ****ed off before hand.
Maybe ****ed off is the wrong word, just more the feeling of "I've been here before"
If their's one thing I don't like, it's doing things twice or 3 times.

And lesson learnt from last time and will be doing a little bit of testing before I stick all the interior back in properly.

Exactly, mate!

We're all a bit impatient these days, it's the society we live in. Even older guys like me, like instant results. We should know better. I see you as an intuitive and skilled mechanic in your chosen area. The mistakes you make along the way are making you in to a craftsman in your chosen area. In the long term, mistakes are a positive!

Did the engine sound better this time, or was it too loud with the exhaust not fully set up?

What you looking for with removing the bearing caps mate?

I am fitting a 'new' engine but was thinking about doing a few checks beforehand. i am building the landrover around the engine so needs to be good!

With the greatest of respect, if you don't know what to look for when removing/inspecting bearing caps, then you might want to leave the engine building to someone else. I really don't mean to offend by that. Just don't want to see a fellow LR enthusiast losing their hard-earned.
To answer your question though, your looking for any scoring (which could point to metal contamination, partial seizure due to oil starvation etc) or general wear of the white metal surface that will eventually lead to knocking big end/main bearings.

Ooh.. Bloody hell, I forgot about this

Cheers :) Yes I'm very impatient at times, although I have got better, I just want to get stuck in and crack on with the job at hand.
So good in some ways, bad in others.

Oh and yep. The engine sounded much better, more crisp, better throttle response. More so than I imagined it would.
I can't complain about it though. Much happier :)

Aaron. Do you think there is any benefit to starting with an early Defender, with the engine set further back to start with? I have looked at a 1986 110 county na diesel. But the bodywork was so ropey it has put me off. Chassis ok, apart from rear x member but b pillars for rear doors rotten.
