So it's been ****ing it down since yesterday evening and the forecast anit looking much better for the next week of so. Well that f*cks my plans up

So today I decided to clean the transfer box up.
I want a 1.4 at some point but I can do that as and when I find one at the right price. At least it gets me moving for now.

First job was to drill and tap 2 holes for the handbrake cable bracket.
Being a disco trans box and defender bracket the holes aren't there and was kind of flapping about.

Aaron whats the reasoning behind changing the transfer box, seems most people go the other way and fit disco ones? just wondering its something I've been advised to do

You see I was told if you're running 265s or over then a 1.4 is the way to go. I may well have been told a load of bollox.
But it's on now so I'll see how it goes :)

I've got 2 or 3 D2 parking brakes sat about if you're interested by the way.

It's sorted now but thankyou for the offer :)

yeah let me know how you get on with it, two of the lads at work recommended it to me we are all running 265/75/16

I've got a 1.2 disco box running 265/75 and as and when I find a 1.4 I'll be switching to it. The 1.2 is ok, but I find living in and being part of a dairy farming area, it's just a bit long in the leg for the country lanes. Good ish on the bypass but if and when I pull a trailer, I can feel that a proper fender 1.4 box would be better.

I had a 1.2 box fitted with my tdi and 33" tyres (bigger than 265/75) and i much prefered it to the 1.4

for me i never towed with it and the fuel pump was tweaked a little ;)

Running same size tyres as me so should be interesting.
Will let you know.
Although from the 2 comments bellow it sounds like it's a matter of personal opinion.

Cheers for the replys lads. Will keep the 1.2 in for now and see how it goes :)

Well it's been one of those day's. Seem to have been busy all day yet not a lot to show.

Anyway I propped the roof up with a broom :p and took the sides out.

Went to screwfix to buy a load of nuts bolt and washers, And ended up coming away with a da sander :D
Couldn't resist I've have and air one in the past and the compressor was constantly going and was loud as f*ck. Oh and then it broke.
Makes life so much easier, Especially when the old paint is bad.
But I really shouldn't be buying new tools when I'm out of work

This picture shows what I'm dealing with. At a guess it's had a quick blow over in the past with **** prep work.

And de-stickered, glass out, window guards of and prepped.
Much much easier than by hand :D

More paint today. Seems to take forever although only being able to do two panels at a time doesn't help.

So sides in primer.

And a bit of colour on the job :D

Seeing as where the sides bolt down through the cappings the holes are fairly large and I haven't got any washers that big (Some of the originals were missing)
So I made my own, Well in a fashion :D
44mm hole saw in chequer plate. Fit like a glove :p
