hi all i have got a sall split in the diff housing does anyone know if this can be welded ? it does seem a bit thin !! or is it a change of axle ?

yes it can be welded or yu can use MetalMend EpoxyResin, or you can buy a pipe cap AKA sewer cap (much thicker than a lr diff casing and weld it on to the axle. You'll never split the fooker again.

Make sure its not a cast one tho .

thanx for the quick reply Redhand and MHM do you know where i can get Metalmend from ? i will try that first

It comes in lots of names just look for a 2 part epoxy resin that says it's for metal repairs. & make sure the split is clean and free of oil or other contaminants,

got the oil draining at the minute !! will get some and give it a good clean first thanx again

I found the only way to make sure it stuck, was to remove the diff and wash both inside and out with petrol - you can then put some mastic on the inside - as well as the outside. It is a bit more fiddly, but much more chance it will work.

Thanx MHM will take your advice and take the diff out and clean it thoroughly !!! Damn pain but thats the joy of a landy !!!! cheers
