Hi guys.
Just got a renewal notification for my AA membership. It's gone up to £125 which is £55 more than last year. I've not called them before and it seemed a bit steep so I rang around. RAC quoted £95 so I rang the AA back and they'll do the deal for £89!! It seems it's worth a phone call as it's saved me £36.

My local slitty stealer chucks in AA or RAC recovery as a freebie when yu get a std £99 service. ;). No brainer :).

AA whack up the renewal premium as standard cause you have to cancel and a lot dont bother.....bastids  Cheaper to rejoin

The only time I did call for help a few years ago they couldn't start the disco anyway. Maybe the doc could get a job with them?!?!

Just got our Gold Card (over 15 years) Renewal in - tis 25 quid more than re-joining! Just off for a wee online chat....

Go to one of the cashback sites recommended by the money saving expert and you can get about half back as well.

Update - they've given me a years free membership!! I decided to spend the £89 on other things so I rang today to cancel. They've given me a years membership FOC with an allowance of just one call out. That'll do for me, I reckon!

Never joined AA or RAC or any of the others.. if the vehicle I was driving had a problem I've fixed fix.. then and on my way. I must have saved loads of money:D

Well, when your Land Rover breaks down as much as mine they're actually quite good value. Yes indeed, most of what goes wrong can be fixed, but it's a lot better doing so at home in daylight after a ride on a flatbed truck than at the side of the road in the dark. Interesting tips about negotiation and rejoining though - I shall try that when I'm up for renewal next.

i had a letter through today......saying they want me back???
home start , road side all for £39 and then they given me a £20 boots voucher....
cant complain about that

Looking into this it seems you need to read the small print. I recently had cover through insurance choice at £39 to include nationwide recovery. The rub is that they firstly tow you to a local garage - if the garage cannot fix the vehicle in 24 hrs then they will recover you home! What happens when the garage lay on a rip-off labour rate and you refuse to pay it? Left stranded I guess.

A bit late (story of my life) but SWMBO shops at Tesco and collects they loyalty points. This year I got breakdown and recovery for me and her in any vehicle for £40 in Tesco vouchers. Direct from the RAC would have been £185.

I have noticed for the last two years that the AA's renewal quote is extortionate, but after a phone call they very quickly drop the rates. I basically have the full package, wifey, recovery, homestart and breakdown insurance etc and have saved £130 for the year.
Do the same with your insurance each year. Just get on internet and find cheapest like for like quote...they soon match it.

My AA renewal came through earlier this month at £289 for me my wife and son to be covered, I thought sod that, phoned up to stop them taking the money automatically like they do.

When they asked my why? I said I am not paying that much and they dropped it to £211 just like that. Which happens to match the new family member price on line. He said he could have done a better deal but my lazy arsed son had called them out to change a flat tyre and again to give him a jump start.

He don’t even pay me for his share of the cover he just expects it from good old dad!!

Over £200 for cover - no way
We have cover for my Disco the wife's Corsa and also personal cover for my daughter (any car she's in, is covered) all for £92. Only thing not included is home start as I live at the top of a hill and can push them to the bottom if they don't start and then call the Recovery Firm!

I payed 169 on my renewal this year, I forgot to call and haggle so had to deal with the cost but it does cover me for everything, my car is covered, me in any other vehicle, home start, roadside relay, onward travel, courtesy car etc...

It's a lot of money but like a lot of people on here I like to repair a car myself so if I broke down 200 miles from home its good to know I can get home with my car and fix it myself rather than just being towed to the nearest garage where I would need to foot the bill!
