Hi,
I recently bought a 1997 Disco for a bit of fun over the winter and it is really slow, like probably 30 seconds to 60.
In another section, I have been recommended to potentially change the cams as these can be really affect the performance.

I can service a car but i've never done anything like changing cams (I would like to give it a go)

Not looking for any more performance over standard unless the upgrades are minimal in cost compared to stock.

Any and all advice appreciated.

Yes cam and lifters can be badly worn

though the cam would have to be sooooooooooooooooo worn to be that slow!!

Wonder if advance weights and vacum unit work?

Having had some worn v8s om starship miles ( although always carbed) i would say check the basics first.

Is she firing on all cylinders and in the right order ?

Are the plugs and leads in fine fettle ?

Is the fuel pump giving good pressure.

Like everyone is telling you, there's a lot to go through
More than what has been mentioned so far.
+ timing dynamic, compression, injection specs here:

It could take a lr garage a long time to get to the bottom of it and a massive bill.

If doing your own minor servicing is the level of your abilities, it might be wise to cut your losses, you are embarking on cruise up sh#t creek. I'm guessing at the price of a v8 disco1, you aren't going to lose that much .

109,000 miles, some history and an auto.
I can do jobs more than a small service but I would need a guide etc to follow.

Get a garage to do the fuel pressure check on the return line. Check for unmetered air entering (like a holed induction hose). Check throttle pot at idle and smooth increase as throttle opens + air flow meter with a multimeter. Use the link for specs. Borrow a timing gun and check looking for 5-7 deg btdc at idle and another 7 degrees advance per 1000rpm.

Someone may be able to help you if you post location. It'll only take an hour or so to rule a few things out
