Can the TD5 auto gearbox work without the ecu.

Unlikely, you’d need a box from a D1 or something

Ashcroft conversion... best money I've spent... transformed my 90... pricey, but with all that's involved I reckon it was good value.

Looking at fitting a 606 engine which means the engine ecu will be removed hence the question.

Surely you'll want a better gearbox? Even the uprated Ashcroft boxes are only rated to 400Nm, which makes the upgrade pretty pointless.

And do you have the intruments and warnings covered somehow cos those are managed by the ECU(most of them)

On a list somewhere, I have a neighbour who has done this to a manual td5 so he’ll be my new best friend

Would it not be simpler ripping out all existing wiri g and just getting a new loom made up, swap dash and fuel tank/pump etc for tdi one?

I say this as I've thought about sticking an older carb v8 in my td5 when it blows and this is the way I would go....
