I'm in the process of making one of my 2.5 P38's ready for some off road driving as well as everyday use on the road,I want to take my 18" wheels and put all terrain tyres on them,at the moment the better of my two vehicles is on 16" wheels which I'd like to put on the other vehicle because they're vile.
I spoke to the place I'm getting the tyres from and they couldn't really help so I'm hoping somebody here could advise me with regards to tyre choice and wheel size in relation to my needs,on and off road use preferably on 18" wheels,thanks.

I have BF Goodrich 265/65/18's AT'S on mine and aren't a problem,but you can't have mudflaps cos on full lock the tyres will rip them off. Only slight rubbing if any on standard height and driving in access mode is a defiant no-no,but i have altered all the ride heights so its not really an issue. You could try 255/60/18 and shouldn't have any issues but be warned make sure your suspension is in good working order with no leaks or crappy airbags because if it gets stuck in access you won't be able to drive it. And they will look the dogs when fitted

I've been looking for some a/t's for my 18's for a long while wanted general grabber at2 but they have stopped making then, the new grabber a/t's are ment to be just as good but don't look like it,

I'm never sure on re-treads but seem a good price but what will a p38 drive like ??????

They will be great until you drive at speed for an extended time loaded up, they get warm and the tread falls off.

I've got General Grabber AT2s on my 18s and they've been brilliant. You should still be able to find some. Brilliant on road and off road - I've not got stuck yet and they're quiet on tarmac.

The P38 is fussy with tyres especially on 18 inch wheels - the wrong ones will cause tramlining and vibration problems so you're right to ask for recommendations!

I've found some General Grabber AT2's here at
GENERAL TYRES / 4X4 / GENERAL GRABBER AT2 AT 2 - 255/60R18 112H XL TL :: £131.00 :: 4x4 Tyres - SUV Tyres - All Terrain Tyres - Off Road Tyres - 18" :: R18" - 255/60/18, 255/60 R 18 :: they're 255/60/18 at £131 each which seems good to me,I'd rather have BFG's or something as good but seemingly they only come as heavy duty arch fillers which I'm sure I don't need,thanks for the advice so far Gents.

Toyo open country seem to work ok on mine 255 55 18
Steer clear of Pirellies
Olso have had no problems with Hankook snow bears for winter driving

To answer your original question: 16" are probably a better choice for off road use. When off road, & dropping pressure, there is more tyre side wall to flex and prevent damage to (alloy) wheels. 245/75 16s will give more clearance under the diffs and I think is the biggest tyre to fit with no mods made. Good range available in this size.

#### Currently No Stock Available ####

Same as paddock's they list them but when I ask how long delivery would be they said they haven't got any.

A decent tyre place ought to be able to find some. They've only just stopped making them.

Having said that, I spent ages trying to find Pirelli Scorpion STs and eventually thought I'd found some but they turned out to be STRs which were on the same stock code and so awful I took them back and swapped them for GG AT2s.

The new ATs are supposed to be even better but they just don't look offroady!
