hi all, i was doing 70 mph on the bypass and my brakes decided to stop working. after rolling to a holt i had a look underneath and found that the main pipe that runs from the servo to the back had rusted away and had lost all my fluid,i have spoke to a local 4x4 workshop and they can replace the whole pipe for £60+vat.they said this is very common fault .the only thing is its about a 20 minute drive,is there anyway i could patch this up to get me there safely, all comments would be great

No real way of safely patching it mate ............. what about doing it yourself???

If you r not spanner shy you can buy a pipe flaring kit for about £15 and the pipe for a few quid and away you go ;)

If doing it yourself is not an option then getting the Disco recovered to the garage is about your only option :(
 
not with yer brakes man .... fix it proper like .... you can buy a brake pipe kit fer less than what he's chargin ya and mend it yerself its quite easy .... but dont drive with bad brakes man .....
 
im not a spanner man but i will give anything a go, do i just replace the bit that has rusted or do i have to replace the whole length there is alot of bends in that pipe
 
it depends where its broke ... its a bit hard to tell from here .... you can put a patch on it , by that i mean you can replace the bit thats broke with the correct bit if ya get me drift .... its not hard to do but if you aint sure then get someone that knows what theys doing cos its yer brakes ....
 
where are you chap ?? do you have a brakes international anywhere near ya ??? cos they'll gen you up and or do it for ya .... and you could buy the flarin tool from them aswell , they aint expensive ...
 
As above really ............... if your not 100% confident in your ability get someone else to do it for ya.

Surely theres some local mechanic that'll do it for ya ........... just look for cars with the bonnets up on weekend and ask the guy if he wants to earn some beer tokens ;)

Some of my best customers have been the ones who saw me fixing me own car at home and came up to me asking for a quote ;)
 
you need a good tool supplier that sells that kind of stuff if you want to do it yerself , probbly no brakes international down there then but they are quite big up here .... its probbly best you get it to a garage and let them sort it for ya , dont drive it tho ehh ...
 
its so anoying i think i could do it but the trouble is time. i use my disco everyday for work so i think i will be going to the garage thanks for your advice.
 
Aye get it to the garage if you're not confident to do it yerself. 60 quid plus a bit for gordon's wages isn't much to pay for yours and everyone elses safety.

True

I've seen people quoted over £200 for a similar job in the past so i think that the price your gonna be charged is a fair one :)
 
Just a thought. Get the front brakes checked........I think this is a dual circuit system so failure of the rear should leave you with something to help stop you.

Also, remember the handbrake is a mechanical device and independent of the footbrake, this also would have helped you stop.
