Just bought the GRANDdaughter some books for her 8th birthday. Is it the done thing to write a message on the frontispiece these days or not?
I am not famous, and wont be if the voices stop telling me to massacre the neighbours, the Govt. and prince Charles, so my signature is currently worthless.

It is still nice to get a personal greeting written inside a book. Assuming kids read books these days. The back of an iPad might be more in keeping. I've still got a book given to me by my late grandad which a little message scribbled in the front cover. It holds pride of place on my bookshelf.

You might not be famous on a global scale, but to your *cough*daughter, you're probably a star... now if you'll excuse me I need to go wash, this soppy sentiment is making me feel dirty.

I always had this done to books I received as a child and I think its a nice touch. Just wish I knew where those books were now though

We do it on all books that we give as gifts to adults and children alike. It's always nice to remember who gave you a book especially if its a good one.
