Hi guys, sometimes when putting rangie in reverse it sometimes makes strange clunking noise,as if its jumping.Any ideas as to what this might be

yep, probably yr rolling slightly or yr on a bit of an incline, i.e bit of pressure on the gearbox from wheels.

it's similar to the grinding you get when rolling forward slightly and selecting reverse in a manual.

if it still does it when yr on level ground and completely stationary. then it could be summat else!!

try selecting N for a second or two then reverse!

I know you say 'when putting', but do you mean the movement of the gear lever and gears makes a grinding noise, or when you're are reversing there's a noise?

If the first then make sure the RR is completely stopped. Check gearbox oil level, press the clutch more, get someone else to check the feel of the clutch.
If the second then check UJ's and prop to diff connections. (Disco has a rubber donut thing on rear, dunno if RR is same)

paul, arnt rangey's all auto? it will be devoid of a clutch pedal!!!! lol

if ya don't believe me i'll show you on mine when we go out on the lanes!!!(next weekend hopefully???)

LOL, I dunno ... ;)

If they are then .. er .. er ...
