what is the best winter battery for my disco had loads of winter cold start probs last year i reall need good cranking power i got a booster but got fed up getting it out lol cheers i am in manchester area please thanks

Anything that has a high CC (cold cranking) more the better. My disco has something like 720cc & my 90 has 810cc.
Just as long as it fits in the battery tray.

Ive just got standard Disco battery and mine always starts first time even in -10 last year. Must be something else causing your problem. Europarts are doing 630 cca batteries for £56 if thats any use.

I'd go for more than 630 cca's,

I got a tractor battery from my local agri supplier with 1000 cca's for £65, starts first time every time;).

Ive just fitted a 664 to my 300tdi disco , really tight fit but whips over instantly now

think its around a 1000 cca , Paid £70 for it but got 4 year warranty so im happy !

Your not wrong in the standard bit, as said in another thread 580 CCA 069 or 072 was fitted when D1s left the factory and that worked.
My recent replacement is a 610 and turned over my engine last winter ok even after standing for 5 days you only need a battery for starting.. if it don't "we have a problem H" :)

Just been browsing. Found a 850cca, 100 amp, 12v. Bit big bit so long as it fits i am ok right? I am out at 6 every morning and had a look today and its a 570cca halfords value jobby. Feck. £80 for what i found but 4 year warranty.

Right! If it fits and the terminals are the right way round go for it.

erm... do you have only one? my disco 1 has 2 pieces 70a 740 cc if i remember right. it came to me that way, wonder why? also my range has 2 batteries, but its original "van" or "industrial" model. doesnt have rear windows, only tailgate window.

I know i know, but theres no threads on defender. Sure answers batterywise apply here. Plus its got disco engine going in soon so...
