If you go L322 Jag engine is the one to get
You'd hear most of the above.
A heavy tapping when hot is slipped Liners.
Light tapping when cold is Tappets but that can also stay permanently if they're worn.
Timing chain is a clatter.
The P38 is what you will be getting 98+ yr 2000 they're Ford but with BMW stuff added on.
The L322 is a different beast altogether that runs from 2002-2012.
P38 is 1995-2002.
400nm is grunty but it isn't fast per'se.
Also MPG is to consider you'd be lucky to see 16mpg the V8 is thirsty..
On a run you might see 20mpg but that is rare. 13-16 is the general area.
So the pre-purchase inspection consist mostly of listening for weird noises, eh? I mean apart from the usual rust-suspension-electronic features checks.
I was looking for a way of telling the Gems and Thor variants apart preferably from photos - is it that Thor-equipped Rangies have different indicator glass/housing? White instead of orange? Because the advertised year doesn't necessarily correspond with the model year. And I'm sure there was some overlap, too.
Haha, I'm not looking for fast. Even the 4.0 (which I'd prefer actually) would still be faster than the car it's replacing, LPG or not.
Test drive is this - drives straight no wobbles/grinds, steering like it’s on rails, gears all go through tidy, pulls like hell all the way to 100+, brakes like it has an anchor, EAS all fine. No warning lights/beeps or gauges creeping on dash (maybe fuel gauge lol).
Pay em, drive it home, brakes in a week, spend weekend crying to us, Garage fix it - return to step one...
