Hi all, one of todays jobs was changing this joint - the rubber boot was completely knackered, it may even have been the 30 year old original. Amazingly all the nuts and bolts came off without too much of a struggle (3' drive bar helped) and I was able to get a 30mm ring spanner nearby for the castleated nut. Hammer as I might, I couldn't get the joint to separate from the bracket on the axle. I even lifted the back up with a jack on it. In despair, I got my biggest hammering device from the shed - a log splitting maul. After a couple of fruitless bashes I put the sharp end in between the joint and twisted it sideways, which gave masses of leverage - hey presto, separated with very little effort. Worth a try if you're stuck.

I have seen a few how to vids with the chassis lifted, I didn't need to use the jack at all. Get plenty of releasing fluid on the nuts and bolts now, and use a 19mm six sided socket to crack the nuts in the arm if you can get one.

Thanks, I've been soaking it in Penol for a week. Its a '91 and it looks original so things could be a bit stiff !!
I'll start looking for a six sided socket.
