By the way lamriska, thanks for the link... its going to be a few weeks before we can afford to buy a landie! Can't help thinking though... I would really like to be able to equip my shogun with similar spec to a landie, you know... all terrain tyres etc. and see how it performs against a simlarly equipped disco. I know there's a good chance it would be out performed, but it would be an interesting experiment don't you think?

When all is said and done, I still believe the shogun is a capable off road vehicle with some interesting characteristics which may provide that little edge necessary to allow it to compete in the same arena as the disco.

Cheers... and by the way... nice to see you last week.

Ryder

PS to all.... maybe its not the vehicle you drive... but how you drive it that counts. I have no reason to believe that I would have fared any better in a petrol land rover than a petrol shogun, its my inexperience that let me down. At least that is something I can strive to correct. In fact I feel a new thread coming on!

Ryder, There's no perfect vehicle. A 90 will do things that a 110 can't do and vice versa. Experience plays a very big part, you're learning fast. Just look at Mike on his first trip. It's all about getting to know what it will do and what it won't. Take that little mound I drove over, it's just experience.

Whaddon sounds good !

Went to devils pit today :O, but turned up too late so couldnt watch, but i turned round at the top, there was a discovery there, i could not believe how high it was, mine looked like a car compared to this beast!

next time its open im defo gonna go there for a look, Spyderman, i now see what you mean about my car getting wrecked there

i was only there 10 mins and 1 person was being towed away by the AA, another persons front wheel was laying flat across the ground on a defender :O

and another person was being towed, his rear wheels wouldnt even move

looked amazing though :D

Mikesabes

Took a lok at devils pit a couple of weeks ago. I kid you not... believe what the people here are telling you. We plan to try devils pit, but not until we have a throw away car. The difference between laning and devils pit is a bit like the difference between smoking cigarettes and crack. One will kill ya motor quick... guess which one. You're a drummer, and if you have been around in the industry for long you will know musicians who have chosen the wrong route believing that their gig is different. There are no different gigs... only different prices.

Whaddon... now there's a good idea. I really like the idea ( now what the **** am I letting myself in for!)

Before Whaddon, you'll both need some decent recovery points.
Ryder try Scorpion Racing for one of those rear recovery rings that you're missing.
mikeysabes, move the tow bar electrics and get some Jate Rings for the front, loose the side steps.
Whaddon is just Mud & Water, not like the Pit.

Not all Disco's are 7 seaters, some are only 5, but it's easy to see.
Automatics are fine off-road and there is a Diesel Auto available, but not till series II with the TD5 engine, I think. You'll pay more for the Auto. Series II are a bit longer behind the rear axle, so reduced departure angle, compared to series 1. Series I 300Tdi is probably the best to go for, about 'S' reg. approx £2,500 for a good one.

300tdi autos are available, possibly even 200tdi's but I have to admit I haven't seen one.

Mud n water... ok then. Scorpion racing it is

Clear all your credit cards 1st if your going to scrapiron racing. They're a set of thieving bastids and will charge at least twice what everbody else does. Oh and the quality of their stuff is crap.

That guy in the green 90 is a prick all the toys and no idea. Did he actually manage one obstacle without getting stuck. and those pedestrians were risking it a bit during that snatch recovery.
