I was wondering have easy is it to get the A frame ball joint out of the A frame?.

Would it be easier to get the bearing that already on the fulcrum bracket?.

Is the wide angle joint for the A frame worth getting?.

Cheers

It's supposed to be a comple bar steward without a big press. I've just bought a wide angle joint fitted to a new fulcrum bracket. Borrowed an A frame from Twizzle which I've refurbed the arms so I've got the complete package and new bushes ready to go on in one go. :D

Hi AWP
How's the new job?. That's what I thought it would be a complete bar steward. Looks like I will be do the same thing, are you using normal rubber bush poly type bushes?

I've just bought a 12 ton press for this very job. Only 80 quid. I don't fancy farting around with a G clamp and a load of big sockets!

Mine took 20+ tonnes to get out in a commercial press. 12 tonnes back in. Take it to a garage or buy fulcrum bracket with bj fitted already.
I think busters guide is a bit optimistic in using a hammer!

Just use poly bushes. Getting old bolts off bush end can be interesting. Its an odd size nut too like 26mm or something. Id cut em with a recip saw or big grinder so get new ones in first.

Cheers for your help Ronsealdeath. I think it will be a pre-pressed in wide angle, new nuts, new bolts and polybushes looks like the lesser of too evils.

Fitted new ball joint when I did all the bushes, once off took at least 20 mins start to finish. No press just some old sockets a vice and a hammer.

It's not a job you will want to do twice.. Buy a good quality or genuine joint either easy fitted to a fulcrum or take it to an engineering place, I had mine pressed out and new in for a tenner and it's way worth getting it done for you!
I wouldn't use poly bushes ever again, I've had ****part and bearmach ones none of which made the car handle as well as original rubber ones!
Unless you genuinely need extra articulation for extreme use stay with stock bushes they last for years and you won't be swearing at rusted in bolts in years to come...

Definitely easier to buy a new bracket. Changed mine when I swapped a disco axle onto the back of the 90.

i've done 2 now. Hammer to get them out and then a press to get them back in. Where the ball joint fits in the bracket has to be very clean.
