I'm replacing the dreaded ball joint on the a-frame and it has all gone fine so far, except I can't remove the balljoint and fulcrum from the axle. The tapered bit just wont budge!!

I tried a lump hammer and drift; jacked up vehicle and let it fall on a lorry jack and it still won't budge.

I read all the threads about it and I'm stuck

Any further ideas? :)

hit the the end edge of joint socket it will distort the taper and let joint pop out if you do it correctly ie a few big hits not lots of taps

Thanks James. Are you talking about the underneath bit, where the taper ends and the threads begin?

I usually use the two hammer trick on joints, but I have to admit this one was a pig unless you knew where to whack it.

I got garage to boof out the old joint and press the noo one in. Dude said he hadn't had one that tough before.

10 quid well spent.
