I am a newish owner of a TD5 Disco 2 X Reg. I have already had to change the fuel pump, two air bags (just today). Now I still have a few problems to trouble shoot and I am a bit lost where to start. The first one is the interior lights, they don't come on when you open the door, they work fine off the switch but thats all, it's a bit awkward when your getting the baby out the back. The second problem is the radio, it's just died, seems to have power to it as the standby light is on but that's it, been working fine until now, unfortunately it's an after market radio, so don't expect too much help with this one.

Next problem is the dashboard and climate illumination. In the dark with the lights on all the climate buttons are not illuminated, I guess there is a problem with bulbs somewhere but not sure where to look. The speedo and rev counter area is also pretty dark and you cannot see the fuel gauge at all.

The last problem is the heater, the car warms up to say halfway on the temp gauge but unless I go over 2500 rpm there is no heat to the cabin, soon as I stop the heat vanishes again. Had a new head gasket fitted and an anti-freeze top up down at a local Landrover specialist, since then it's not been right.

Any guidance you guys can offer would be much appreciated, oh and merry Christmas!!!!!!!!

Just bulbs need replacing on the speedo, really easy job to do. Take the clock out and the bulbs are screwed in from behind. Can't remember what bulbs they are, but they are the same ones as the side lights on the disco. Well the disco 2 facelift that is. When you take the old bulbs out take the green plastic covers off them and place them over the new bulbs. They are what make the clock face green.

I think the bulbs are capless 501. Try bleeding the coolant system, there's a bleed screw on the top hose on the right of the engine.

Climate/Heater control needs new bulbs. I got mine from dealer £3 each. one bulb lights all the buttons along the bottom. one each side for the temp up/down switch.

Remove the unit from the dash with two credit cards slid in at the sides to depress spring clips. If this dont work remove cup holder and depress clips from there.

Don't know if its the same as a p38 but I have to hold in the main button for the interior lights and its beeps at me and they then work with the doors,

Check you have a live, a ignition live and earth to the radio if you have sounds like you need a new unit

dash lights are normally 3w capless bulbs NOT the 5w side light bulbs you may melt stuff if you put them in.

heat sounds like the thermostat to me done loads this winter for some reason, heat when on the move but not heat when stopped, had probs with after market ones only lasting a year so go LR

Ok any peeps in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area that can offer some help trouble shooting the interior light problem, looks like I need a diagnostic??

I am based on Claremont Rd (Spital Tongues) and may well be able to help. Well, at least, I can plug in a Nanocom and see what it says!
